Denisa Strakova – NSFW

Denisa Strakova is a fashion and art model based in Czechia. During her recent tour of the UK, she was in the my area. The chance to work with her was not to be missed. Over the course of the session we shot a range of themes, from fashion to Artist Nude. Below are a selection of the images that we created together. Well worth a scroll down to the bottom:

Denisa was really great to work with and we created some great expression and shapes. I would certainly work with her again if the chance arose.

Photography

Riona – Natural Light – NSFW.

A set of natural light images featuring Riona. These were all shot using the The Fujifilm GF110 F2 lens. This is certainly a great portrait lens. As you can see from the images below the image quality is where this lens stands out. It renders the images sharp from wide open and delivers a calm beautiful bokeh that is not a distraction. Instead the out of focus areas support the image with great, neutral, subject separation.

The light in the room was coming from a velux window in the roof which gave some really nice soft natural light for theses shots

EmiLi – NSFW

Emili is a Bristol based model who was visiting Leeds. I took the oportunity to work with her at my local studio Silkwood. I choose a simple studio lighting set up for most of the sets with a rectanglar soft box fitted with a grid to direct the light being the setup for the first few images

I like deep and moody shadows – shadows that carried tension. So by using a soft but directional light, it allowed me to keep the environment honest, and draw the eye to expression, posture, and intent.

Lighting for the images below was a gridded large octa placed in front and to the left hand side of the subject. I then featherd it across the scene to keep it off the background. The deeper shades and light angle sculptured the body nicely.

Miss C – November Shoot

A November visit to Staffordshire gave a chance to shoot with Miss C. Owner and resident model of the luxury photographic venue, Basford Hurst Cottage. I had visited the studio previously to work with a visiting model. So I had a feel for the location and also the opportuntiy to create with Miss C, was not to be missed.

It was a typical November day so wet and dark, which sort of set the mood for the shoot. I went for a simple lighting setup using an Elinchrom One and used two different light shapers durin the shoot.

I wanted shadows you could almost feel — shadows that carried tension, Soft but directional light allowed me to: Keep the environment honest, draw the eye to expression, posture, and intent.

Antonia and Alice location duo NSFW

I had the chance to work with models Antonia Jay and Alice on the moon when they were visiting Lancashire in August. Both models are based on the South coast. So I didn’t want to miss the chance to shoot them both. It was a good August day so most of the images were shot outdoors. Antonia and Alice worked well together and they were great fun to create with.

I had brought a compact Elinchrom One, and a small Rotolux Deep Octa Softbox 70cm for the lighting plus stands. With this minimal setup, I could carry everything myself, and it took only a short time to setup at the location. It was easy to move around too.

The lighting setup aloud me to balance the ambient light with some fill flash to lift the subject out of the background

A similar set up with the light again lifted the front model out of the shade nicely

A tighter crop and the light to lhs side for this one

Sitting under the apply tree and the light balance lifted the models out from its shade.

Shot just using the rooms natural light

Indoors the light to the right hand side gave some funky shadows. Yes Alice did walk up the wall for this.

Placing the light into the room for this shot gave plenty of light for both models to be lit.

Lighting with mirrors (NSFW)

Lighting with mirrors, this series of images are from a studio shoot with UK model Georgie Brown. Georgie was in the area and so we arranged to work together at Silkwood Studios. For this setup I used a a constant light source pointing away from the model and then positioned three separate mirrors. The light was then reflected back on to the background wall. This is a cool lighting set up as you can change the light pattern shapes and shadows by moving and angling the mirrors. It also gives you two sets of shadows which is different. A works well to produce a different look in the images,

Crystal fashion fun

These images are from a studio shoot with UK model Crystal. I was in the Somerset area and had a model booked who unfortunately then had to cancel at short notice due to illness. Fortunately the studio owner recommend I contact Crystal. She was available and as it was very short notice we didn’t have time to plan a theme for the shoot. We decided to go with a fun theme, hence the title Crystal fashion fun. The Images were all shot at Rawpics Studio

Crystal was great to work with and we had some good fun creating a range of different looks, using different light set ups.

Caitlyn Studio Session

Natalia and a Curve (NSFW)

These image are from a studio session with Natalia. The studio has a couple of large curves, so for this set we use just the one of the curves. Lighting was a rectangular strip soft box set off the the right hand side of the model and curve. This controlled the light and kept in focused on the model without spilling out onto the background too much.
