Mimi Deskua -NSFW

Mimi Deskua is a fine art model based in Geneva, Switzerland. She was in the area so we arranged to work together at my local studio Silkwood.

I wanted a simple lighting set up that gave soft transistion across the model. I placed a medium octa fitted with a grid to control the spread of the light. This was placed to the right hand side of the model and feathered it away from the background. This gave me seperation between the model and background. By moving around the set different view points gave a slightly different mood for the set of images. But the position the light did not change.

The images were all shot in monochrome with the fuji film ARCOS + G filter film setting.

Mimi Deskua was good to work with and I was pleased with the results we created.

EmiLi – NSFW

Emili is a Bristol based model who was visiting Leeds. I took the oportunity to work with her at my local studio Silkwood. I choose a simple studio lighting set up for most of the sets with a rectanglar soft box fitted with a grid to direct the light being the setup for the first few images

I like deep and moody shadows – shadows that carried tension. So by using a soft but directional light, it allowed me to keep the environment honest, and draw the eye to expression, posture, and intent.

Lighting for the images below was a gridded large octa placed in front and to the left hand side of the subject. I then featherd it across the scene to keep it off the background. The deeper shades and light angle sculptured the body nicely.

Miss C – November Shoot

A November visit to Staffordshire gave a chance to shoot with Miss C. Owner and resident model of the luxury photographic venue, Basford Hurst Cottage. I had visited the studio previously to work with a visiting model. So I had a feel for the location and also the opportuntiy to create with Miss C, was not to be missed.

It was a typical November day so wet and dark, which sort of set the mood for the shoot. I went for a simple lighting setup using an Elinchrom One and used two different light shapers durin the shoot.

I wanted shadows you could almost feel — shadows that carried tension, Soft but directional light allowed me to: Keep the environment honest, draw the eye to expression, posture, and intent.

Bella’s Ballerinas – Valentine’s Show rehearsal

A selection of images from the Bella’s Ballerinas Valentine’s show rehearsal. I was luck enough to be able to go this show rehearsal at a studio in the City Academy London. The rehearsal room had good natural light and white walls so all the images were shot using the rooms natural light. The first half of the shoot the dancers rehearsed the dance sequences. In the second period they performed a dress rehearsal.

Georgie – Lighting with mirrors (NSFW)

This series of images are from a studio shoot with Uk model Georgie Brown. Georgie was in the area and so we arranged to work together at Silkwood Studios. The setup was lit by using a constant light source pointing into mirrors which is then reflected back on to the background wall. For this setup I was using three stand alone mirrors. This is a cool lighting set up as you can change the light pattern shapes and shadows by moving and angling the mirrors. It also gives you two sets of shadows which is different. A works well to produce a different look in the images,

Crystal fashion fun

These images are from a studio shoot with UK model Crystal. I was in the Somerset area and had a model booked who unfortunatly then had to cancel at short notice due to illness. Fortunately the studio owner recommend I contact Crystal. She was available and as it was very short notice we didn’t have time to plan a theme for the shoot. We decided to go with a fun theme, hence the title Crystal fashion fun. The Images were all shot at Rawpics Studio

Crystal was great to work with and we had some good fun creating a range of differnet looks, using different light set ups.

Natalia and a Curve (NSFW)

Ashleigh Ray Warehouse fashion

I was visiting Brimingham and managed to arrange a studio session with model Ashleigh Ray at the Lampworks Studios. I have worked with Ashleigh Ray before when I was last in that area. So it was good to get to work with her again as she is an expressive model. The location was interesting as it was an old warehouse in the center of the jewelley quarter in Birmingham. Lots of grime and bare brick walls to work against. As we had choosen to do a fashion style shoot I decided to use hard light. As I wanted hard edge shadows against the bricks and grime of the location.

Yoo Yoo Moods

During a visit to my area by the London based model Yoo Yoo. I arranged to work with the Yohoi in my local studio in Cleckheaton. We created a range of fashion and portrait images using a mixture of studio flash and natural light. I also used some mirrors to create some interesting wall patterns with an arri constant light.
