Natalia and a Curve (NSFW)

These image are from a studio shoot with Natalia. The studio has a couple of large curves, so for this set we use just the one of the curves. Lighting was a rectanglar strip soft box set off the the right hand side of the model and curve. You can see more images that I created with Natalia by clicking this: link

Single light setup with Helen Diaz

Here are a set of four images from a shoot with Helen Diaz shot using a single light setup.

I came across these set of images from a studio session with the UK model Helen Diaz. I might call them a bit of a vintage set as they were from a few years ago. When I was just starting to get into working with models and lighting in a studio-based setting. They stood out in the LR catalogue and I decided to work them up to put into a blog post.

I was initial shooting a portrait session with Helen and was also fortunate to have a very good Makeup Artist to work with on that day. The Makeup Artist also turned out to be a bit of a stylist too, as when we want to shoot some more fashion type looks.

She came up with a white ruffled- scalloped type jacket which looked like it might photographed really well. The result of using that jacket can be seen in this set of images.

I chose to light the set with a single light setup to the righthand side of the model. This consisted of a medium sized beauty dish that was mounted on a stand with a boom arm extension. By putting the light onto the boom arm it moved the model and light away from the background and by careful positioning it warped around the subject and made her and the jacket standout against the dark background.

I worked with Helen again in the following few years and we produced some more cool images from these shoots as well.

Elle Beth and Gem duo shoot (NSFW)

Here are the results of a recent duo shoot with the models Elle Beth and Gemma H. They were all shot at my studio space using studio lighting. I have worked with both of these models in the past  but not together.  So when a chance came up to do a duo shoot with them. I thought it would be different and worth arranging for them to visit. Images I had seen of them working as a duo showed they had a good understanding of posing together.

For the Artistic nude set of duo images I chose to use a two light set up. The lights were fitted with a Rectangular Softbox approx 50x130cm, a diffusor  and an egg crated grid to make the light very directional. The main light was to the Left hand side (LHS) slightly in front of the models. The second light was to the RHS and set to a stop lower than the main light.

Shoot: Duo shoot
Instructions: To create good duo shapes using posing blocks; the floor; and standing.
Lighting: Elinchrom BRX 500 studio lights
Models: Elle Beth and Gemme
Styling & MUA : Elle Beth and Gemme

Here are our results…

The image below I left as a straight monochrome as I thought it suited the strong pose from Elle beth better.

The duo portrait image was lit with studio flash in front of which I had placed a scrim to give some nice soft lighting  I wanted a natural messy hair look and the models just had foundation and some lip gloss added.

Roswell Ivory

I  finally have had some time to start to work on my image backlog after a hectic few months of image making. In April alone I had 5 model shoots and a trip to the Isle of Skye for a weeks break and also a change to work at getting some landscape images.

Roswell Ivory is based in Milton Keynes and had contacted me a couple of times in the past to see if we could arrange a time for us to work together.

But somehow the dates we had available never quite matched up, or I already had a shoot booked when she was in the area.  So it was really good that in February we found a date that we both could do. This fitted into a tour she had organised so it meant that she was able to come up to work with me locally so we could be fairly relaxed with the time and a venue too.

This was a studio shoot as February is a just a little bit too cold for working outside, the studio has some good natural light so most of these image were shot with just the natural light in the studio.

The artist nude figure studies were shot with a single studio light on a simple black ground.

Roswell Ivory is great to work with and as she is also a trained  contortionist and as such she can make so great shapes with here body.

The location had a large mirror so we used this to create a set of legs and shoes images using some of Roswell Ivory vintage lingerie collection.

So here a few I liked from the session:
